I have shown and loved horses for most of my life and I cannot remember a time when I did not have a dog. I have loved animals and art all of my life.  Edgar Degas was my first art inspiration as a child.  I am inspired to create  miniature portraits by the works of the original miniature artists.  The genre began in Tudor times and reached its apex in the late 18th and early 19th century, beginning to fade as photography came into vogue, around 1840.  The portrait at the left was created by George Engleheart in 1790.  I prefer to use a similar background on my miniatures, placing the subject silhouetted against a blue sky.
